PROJECT ZHAOZHAO · THE SETTLED RECORD

About Project Zhaozhao

Project Zhaozhao organizes historical documents and identifies the source of every entry, so you can return to the original and check it yourself.

Scope

The scope is not limited to modern history. We verify each period's specific polity, military force and conduct separately, organizing records of warfare, aggression, colonial rule and harm to civilians in China and East Asia, while retaining related Southeast Asian entries and postwar statements. Ancient accounts, evidence of warfare and specific atrocities are verified separately; we do not presume continuous, consistent state responsibility since the Han and Tang periods. Current coverage still focuses on modern history and is not comprehensive.

Editorial methods

The initial entries were researched, written and translated by us with AI assistance, checked against public document texts and collection descriptions. Translations follow the original evidence chain and do not count as additional independent sources. There is no recorded independent expert team or native-language review; automated checks are not equivalent to expert authentication or sign-off by two reviewers.

Facts, statistical scopes and commentary are distinguished. The project criticizes aggression and denial of historical facts, not the Japanese people.

Citation and rights

Retain the title, language edition, update date, link and original sources. For numbers, retain the period and statistical scope.

Repository access

The source repository is open to the public: you can see every entry, the sources for each, and the record of past revisions. A public repository does not mean a standalone website is live, nor that search engines or AI systems have indexed it.
